Kei cars are a uniquely Japanese automotive phenomenon: compact, lightweight and designed around Japan’s distinctive kei-class regulations. Over the decades, this formula has produced some seriously cool super-minis, from tiny city cars and retro runabouts to surprisingly capable turbocharged performance machines. Now, we’re bringing the best of them together at Japfest Goodwood.

Calling All Kei Car Owners

For Japfest Goodwood, we’re creating a dedicated Kei Car Display celebrating the diversity, creativity and character of Japan’s smallest cars. We’re looking for the best Kei cars in the UK, from immaculate original examples and rare imports to carefully modified builds that showcase the huge personality of this unique corner of Japanese car culture. Think tiny dimensions. Big attitude. Whether it’s a pocket-sized turbo, a retro Japanese icon, a quirky classic or a seriously modified super-mini, we want to see what you’ve got.

A Small-Car Revolution

Kei cars have played a huge role in Japanese motoring culture. Built to meet strict size and engine-capacity regulations, they were designed to be affordable, practical and perfectly suited to Japan’s busy urban environment. But manufacturers soon discovered that small didn’t have to mean boring.

Over the years, Kei regulations gave rise to an incredible variety of cars, including tiny convertibles, four-wheel-drive models, sporty hatchbacks and turbocharged pocket rockets. Cars such as the Honda Beat, Suzuki Cappuccino, Autozam AZ-1, Daihatsu Copen and Suzuki Alto Works have become cult favourites far beyond Japan. Their appeal is easy to understand: they’re unusual, characterful and completely different from the performance cars that normally dominate the show scene.

That’s what we’re aiming for. At Japfest Goodwood, we’ll be showcasing a hand-picked selection of the finest and most interesting Kei cars in the UK, giving these miniature Japanese legends the spotlight they deserve. So if you’ve got a Kei car sitting in the garage, on the driveway or tucked away in your collection, this is your chance to bring it to Japfest and be part of the display. While the Kei Car Display is a dedicated feature for some of Japan’s smallest and most characterful cars, all cars are welcome to display at Japfest Goodwood. Whether you’re bringing a JDM legend, a modified performance car, a rare import, a classic Japanese car or something completely unique, there’s a place for you at the show. Choose from General Admission tickets, Display Car tickets or Club Car tickets below and join thousands of Japanese car enthusiasts for a huge celebration of JDM culture.
