Japfest to Celebrate the Women Driving UK JDM Culture with Women in the Scene Display at Goodwood

From turning spanners in workshops and building cars in their garages, to competing behind the wheel, creating content and inspiring thousands online, women are making their mark across every corner of the automotive world and this year, Japfest Goodwood is putting them centre stage.

Following the success of our Women in the Scene feature at our sister show TRAX, we’re bringing the idea to the world of Japanese performance cars, celebrating the women who aren’t just part of the scene, but are actively shaping it. And what better way to celebrate that than with some seriously special cars?

Laura Lusted: @thatskylinegal

Among those joining us will be Laura Lusted, better known as @thatskylinegal, bringing her passion for Japanese performance cars to the display. Laura’s collection includes a Nissan R34 Skyline, Toyota Glanza V, Honda Civic EJ6 and Toyota Starlet SR, with the R34 firmly holding the title of her favourite. Her journey started with a K11 Nissan Micra — which she promptly modified with a drop, wide wheels and an exhaust loud enough to make its presence known. With her love of cars sparked by her dad, Laura has continued to build and work on her own cars, taking a hands-on approach and learning as she goes. Whether she brings her yellow Honda Civic or her much-loved R34 Skyline to Goodwood, she’ll be a great example of exactly what Women in the Scene is about: passion, individuality and getting stuck in. And with a dream car of a Ferrari F40 and Spa-Francorchamps sitting at the top of her dream-track list, there’s clearly plenty more to come.

At Japfest Goodwood, we’ll be bringing together a display of some of the best JDM builds in the UK, all built by women. From meticulously engineered performance machines to beautifully finished street cars, these aren’t simply cars that look good on a stand. They’re stories of passion, creativity, late nights, busted knuckles and an obsession with getting things just right. But Women in the Scene is about more than the cars. It’s about the people behind them. We’ll be celebrating women across the entire Japanese car community, from influential content creators and photographers to mechanics, fabricators, drifters, racers, builders and lifelong enthusiasts. Because there’s no single way to be a woman in the car scene.

Some discovered their passion through family. Others found it through their first project car. Some learned everything themselves, while others turned that passion into a career. What connects them all is the same thing that connects the entire Japfest community: a genuine love for cars.
